Pillings Lock Marina

This former gravel quarry site was connected to the canal network and allowed to flood on completion of the aggregate extraction.  A condition of the original planning approval, was that once the quarry ceased working the site, it must be landscaped and reinstated for leisure use.

To compliment this new purpose, a central facilities building was created as a hub of the site.  The building houses changing and shower rooms for visiting boat users and a popular Bistro that has become a destination in its own right.  The upper floor contains a luxury penthouse apartment, available for holiday bookings.  As the water level at the Marina can vary significantly, the main building was set on piles with external decking cantilevered out above the highest water level.

Moorings are available for both residential house boats and narrow boats cruising the canal and river network.

Boatyard and slipway services are available from an adjacent building, ranging from repairs and maintenance to fuel or chandlery.

The Marina has been a great success, expanding its facilities to include boats available for hire and an electric car club & hire for both the local community and waterway users who wish to explore the surrounding area.
