who are we

Paul Hunt

Paul studied Architecture at the Universities of Nottingham, Leeds Metropolitan and Huddersfield, graduating in 1999.  He spent two years working in Malaysia which widened his experience of environmental design and the interface between a building and its context.

Paul joined Julian Owen Associates in 2001, where he later became a director, with responsibility for business promotion, staff development and new client consultations.  He specialised in guiding clients through the often daunting build process, from Planning and Building Regulations applications, to overseeing construction on site.

Outside of work, Paul has an interest in self-build and has previously converted a disused Baptist Chapel to create his own home.  He is now refurbishing a derelict farmhouse, using off-grid technologies.  This practical knowledge has informed his work and given a better understanding of the build process.  He is also a keen walker, cyclist and has taken part in a number of triathlons.

Suzy Hunt

Suzy attended the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, graduating in 1998 with first class honours and has over twenty years of professional experience in practice.  She enjoys both design and the management of projects on site, having a particular interest in construction detailing and the renovation of historic buildings.

After graduating, Suzy worked for Brooker Flynn Architects, where she was later made an associate and was responsible for retail, education and domestic projects.  In 2007, Suzy joined Marsh Grochowski in Nottingham, a design led practice whose ethos is that architecture should relate to and enhance its context.  She was the project architect for a variety of schemes, from small domestic extensions to a number of theatres, including a new build Performing Arts Centre for a local school.  In 2016, Suzy moved to Barnard Castle and worked for William Gray Associates, using Archicad 3D modelling software to design and detail a number of domestic extensions.

Outside of work, Suzy enjoys gardening, stained and fused glass design and walking Brodick the spaniel.
